Results For XM18 — An Integrated Hydrocolloid
Medical Adhesive*
Xennovate Medical’s hydrocolloid ostomy and wound care adhesives avoid odor because they contain no animal products; and their ingredients (e.g., alginates) are skin-friendly to enhance healing while maximizing both rapid and long-term absorption. They have been manufactured and used successfully in medical applications [510(k) for bandages received, when it was required] for over 20 years; and they have benefitted millions of ostomy appliance end-users on more than five continents.
Xennovate's patented formulations feature integrated adhesives that restrain breakdown caused by heavy fluid absorption or sterilization. Our integrated XM18 THIN [15 mils / ~ 0.38 mm] lasts longer than the leading brands at standard thicknesses, as shown in the nearby image of the results of our water absorption test against one of the leading brands. The desired human skin adhesion level is carefully controlled and provides long wear times even in wet applications. Alginates, incorporated directly into the adhesive, stabilize the fluid-handling properties and provide outstanding sodium/calcium ion exchange at the wound bed. All ingredients are pharmaceutical or food grade as designated by the US Government.
Xennovate's new generation of custom adhesives (Integrated Hydrocolloids) offer superior durability, peel-ability, and pH balance. Our products are individually formulated for different applications such as colostomies, ileostomies/urostomies, and wound management. Key benefits include outstanding wet tack, long wear, fluid stability and skin-friendly (non-irritating ingredients). A wide variety of configurations is available, including island patches, gaskets, strips, rolls and sheets. Our products are manufactured in a large capacity, modern ISO 9001-certified facility.
The developers of xm18C delivered a major product improvement in their patented, “integrated” formulations that maintain dimensional stability while they absorb moisture. xm18 is a patented formulation that performs each of the multiple needs of an absorbent adhesive as well or better than any other product in the industry. Our technology embodies over 20 years of formulation development history.
Test Results…
In this section are various reports on testing conducted on our hydrocolloid products generally in response to questions posed by OEM or converter customers. MDDI, an independent medical device company with expertise in hydrocolloids, guided us in the use of live skin for adhesion tests instead of the "stainless steel standard" generally employed in the industry, and they conducted various tests comparing xm18 to off-the-shelf competitors.
One, not reported in detailed reports, compares the "shear rate" of the adhesive. This test measures the resilience of the adhesive. If the adhesive is too soft, the edges “bleed,” or the device “slides” in place on the user. Conversely, stiff adhesive prohibits conformity to body contours and may even tear the skin upon removal. In less than one day Brand X was totally disintegrated, while xm18 was still going strong [See image this page].
